Safeguarding Against Financial Exploitation of the Elderly (Synopsis)

Welcome to Protecting Senior Loved Ones: Safeguarding Against Financial Exploitation of the Elderly, an interactive workshop designed to help families identify, prevent, and respond to financial abuse targeting older adults. As technology evolves and financial scams become increasingly sophisticated, seniors are often prime targets for fraudulent schemes, identity theft, and undue influence. Today’s session offers a supportive, non-judgmental space to learn how to recognize early red flags and put effective protections in place to secure your family's hard-earned assets.

Throughout this workshop, we will explore the common forms of elder financial exploitation, ranging from high-tech imposter scams and aggressive sales tactics to lesser-known instances of breach of fiduciary duty by trusted individuals. We will examine practical preventative measures, including establishing clear legal oversight like powers of attorney, setting up account monitoring alerts, and organizing trusted contact protocols with financial institutions. Our focus is on empowering families with actionable tools to protect their loved ones' dignity and autonomy while maintaining necessary safeguards.

By the end of our time together, you will walk away with a personalized action plan to foster open, constructive family discussions about financial safety and step-by-step guidance on what to do if you suspect exploitation has occurred. We encourage you to participate, ask questions, and share your perspectives as we work together to build a safer environment for your senior family members. Thank you for taking this important step toward preserving your family’s financial security and peace of mind.
